  • 1 pound cubed lean beef stew meat

  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can fire-roasted diced tomatoes

  • 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chiles

  • ¼ cup diced onion

  • ¼ cup water

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 tablespoon white sugar

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 dash hot sauce (such as Louisiana®), or more to taste

  1. Combine beef, tomatoes, chiles, onion, water, cocoa, sugar, oil, cumin, garlic powder, and hot sauce in a slow cooker.

  2. Cover and cook on Low until meat is fork-tender, 3 to 4 hours.
